Which Iranian movie may go to 2021 Oscars?

Four Iranian movies have higher chances to go to the 2021 Oscars, reviews claim.

Four Iranian movies have equal chances to present Iran at the 2021 Oscars, reviews claim.

Some reviews published by Iranian media project that four Iranian movies have better chances compared to other Iranian titles to represent the country’s cinema at the upcoming edition of the Oscars to be held next year.

Majid Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’ and Shahram Mokri’s ‘Careless Crime’ are among award-winning Iranian movies that may go to the Oscars.

The list of predictions goes on to include Mohammad Kart’s ‘Butterfly Stoke’ and Saeed Malakan’s ‘Zero Day’.

Among all these flicks, Majidi’s new offering praised at the 2020 Venice fest may have a higher chance among other candidates to be named Iran’s submission to the 2021 Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film.

Part of this speculation could be due to the director’s international achievements with such movies as ‘Children of Heaven’ that won an Oscar nomination.

Shahram Mokri’s ‘Careless Crime’ was the other Iranian participant at the Venice fest this year which also took part at the Berlin International Film Festival. This title comes next on the list of hopefuls for an Oscar submission by an Iranian jury panel.

Mohammad Kart’s ‘Butterfly Stoke’ and Saeed Malakan’s ‘Zero Day’ have fighting chances due to their Fajr fest awards. Nevertheless, the national and/or local themes of the movies could make them less qualified in the eye of the panel.

The list with all predictions is just tentative and we need to wait and see which of these flicks will represent Iran at the academy awards.
